Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Gi & No-Gi Classes in Singapore
The BJJ classes at TMT are perfect for anyone looking to grasp a general understanding of “ground fighting” while discovering Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) focuses on using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. Since Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on submissions without the use of striking, BJJ is for everyone of all ages and abilities! Training BJJ at Tiger allows you to focus on learning the many different positions, techniques, and skills required to become successful in this extremely popular martial art.
In the Gi classes, participants are required to wear the traditional BJJ uniform called a “Gi”. Techniques in this class are taught in the traditional methods of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in which the use of a gi is necessary. It is often agreed upon by the highest-ranking grapplers and BJJ practitioners in the world that practicing BJJ while using the Gi is an essential part of becoming an elite-level grappler. While practicing BJJ while using the gi, the student can then achieve a “belt ranking”. The color of one’s belt reflects their skill level in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Nogi classes (wearing a Gi is optional) are for those who want to work more on the technical aspects of their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu game. In the sport of MMA, many students choose to not wear the gi in preparation for specializing in their sport. In these classes, techniques will focus on using BJJ without wearing a Gi.
Gi’s are available for rental and purchase in the TMT gear store. A student may wear his own Gi if they would like.
