What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai, also known as the Art of 8 Limbs, originates from Thailand. “Muay” meaning boxing coupled with the word “Thai” to mean Thai boxing, to distinguish it from the western style of boxing.
The eight weapons of Muay Thai are the fists for punches (1&2), legs for kicks (3&4), knees for knee strikes (5&6) and elbows (7&8). Using these limbs to strike can create an intense workout that’s guaranteed to blast calories, burn fat and create insane cardiovascular endurance.
At Tiger Muay Thai Singapore, we take the exact training Muay Thai training that makes Tiger Muay Thai a legendary world renowned gym and bring it to you right here in Singapore. If you cannot go to Thailand to train, we bring the training to you.
We pride ourselves on Thai authenticity to the sport, hence, the program in Singapore is spearheaded by Kru Chok, a Thai Muay Thai champion, who has been working as a trainer at the Tiger Muay Thai headquarters in Phuket prior to moving to Singapore.
What’s the main difference between the program in Phuket and Singapore you may ask? Time and space.
Time: The Phuket classes are generally two hours, which gives ample time for a practitioner to get a good sweat sesh in. In Singapore however, due to time constraints, the classes are between an hour and 1 hour 15 mins.
Space: Also space constraints in Singapore, means that instead of splitting the trainees into different levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advance), the classes in Singapore are all mixed levels. Meaning, it is suitable for Beginners to Fighters.
But don’t worry! Kru Chok has adjusted the program to fit the needs of Singapore, you will still get the training and workout as you will get in Phuket! In fact, some of our trainees have said it sometimes can be a more intense hour than a class in Phuket!

Benefits of Muay Thai
Burn Calories Fast: A typical one hour Muay Thai Session can burn anything between 400 – 1000 calories, depending on your body mass and your fitness level. It may look easy, but come try a session and see for yourselves!
Full body Toning: You will have to activate your entire body in order to practice the sport. You’ll build a strong core and lean muscles over time. Have you seen a fighter who’s body does not look like they just stepped out of Sculpt magazine?
Self Defense Skills: Other than a full body workout, you’ll learn how to defend yourself in high pressure situations. The training over at Tiger Muay Thai Singapore will train your defense instincts though light sparring situations. Your instinct to block and evade will get sharper over time with practice.
Cardiovascular Endurance: The high intensity workout not only builds lean muscle, the constant movement and “swinging of weights” (imagine carrying a 20kg bat and swinging it fast and hard. Yeah. That’s your legs) elevates your heart rate and creates endurance over time. It’s also been said that regular practice of Muay Thai can lower your risk of cardiovascular diseases and improve overall heart health.
